Tucked away in a snug corner, just a little beyond the prominent Monkey Bar, far from the earsplitting hustle of the main urban existence – Sawadhee Traditional Thai Spa is a lullaby to the senses. This, over 2-years old, property spans over 5000 sq. ft. with 3 fully focused floors. Linear and warm hued, the pagoda- styled entrance lends a peaceful ambiance to the place – the symmetry between the wood and the prominent taupe makes for one unruffled stay.
As you wait at the reception for the masseuse to escort you to the massage room, you get to choose your own therapy oil depending upon your mood and condition. I chose the Relax Oil which had the most soporific smell – I thought was best to put me to serenity.
After having gone through the extensive menu that includes various treatments, hot stone massages, Thai massages, scrubs, wraps etc., I chose a full body 90 minutes Signature Massage and a Red Wine Scrub.
Walking up the elegant stairway, one can notice the use of delicate lights and candles infused with essential oils. The flight of stairs led me to my spacious massage room which ideally is suited for a couple who would want to be drawn closer in restful silence.
As I sat down to soak up the calm, the masseuse scrubbed my feet. I was all set to re-energize. I lay on the massage bed with a mind packed with clutter only to be washed down in next to no time. The massage begins with light stretching to alleviate tension. It then proceeds to rubbing with circular strokes to improve blood circulation. The therapist was trained to precision and she unerringly knew the pressure points – imperative because one wrong nerve squashed and you’re in for some serious hitch. The kneading is interspersed with warm Thai herb potli press that’s been set aside in a hot container. The lengthened strokes with the potli, beginning with the spine going down to the legs and the soles of the feet, is so relaxing, it suddenly relieves you off all the anxiety in the body, all the chaos you’ve been hoarding amidst the noxious humdrum.
After this beautiful comforting massage, I stepped in for steam for about 10 minutes – it is so essential for the pores to open up and absorb the essential oil that’s been so adeptly massaged onto me.
Next was the Red Wine Scrub! Packed with oxidants like avonoid, resveratrol and tannin, the scrub helps fight free radicals and ageing by restoring collagen and elastic fibers. Rich in amino acids, red wine boosts skin renewal, thereby giving the skin its refreshing glow. The scrub definitely helped me get rid of dead skin cells, eliminating tan and blemishes – it’s recommended for all to restore clear supple skin sans blotches.
My ritual ended with relaxing in my own private Jacuzzi that’s present in every room sipping a cup of the Thai tea that’d ship you to a state of ecstasy.
Leaving this place with a relaxed mind, body and soul wasn’t too hard as I have this modest paradise in my own city. I can come back for more such invigorating moments.
