I was meeting my friend after a very long gap who is managing this great Mexican restaurant & bar in the modish and absolutely perambulant Hauz Khas village. This was not going to be a eat & run affair for sure. So, as the pot knows it’s boiling broth the best, similarly I am my own validation for the fun I had. Having parked our car at the other end of the world, as the village gets full house by the tick of the clock, we decided to devour the aroma of the lanes, walking. As we reached Maquina, distinctively visible from the outside, I was greeted by my long lost friend and host for the evening – Virat. The place had a welcoming warmth, hard to deny. I perched myself on the side couch that had a good view of the bar and the live music square. The chef was courteous to come and share the menu for the evening which he had most precisely designed. We started with a white wine sangria that has its humble roots in Spain but here acted as my mood uplifter. Quite a refreshing drink I must say! Went ahead to savour the chicken sampler that had delicious wings, steaks, chicken balls and fried chicken fingers – a good way to start up the soirée. With the backdrop of live music in an amazing voice, I nibbled over the cheesy nachos that complimented my palette. Next were the chicken tacos – crunchy, fresh and what a filling! It was now time for some break and I headed out to the smoking area which overlooks the bustling street through a huge window at the bar table. Just when I was catching up with one of the owners, Natesh Sirpaul over how he wanted to give Delhi a great Tex-mex hub in the form of Maquina, I was invited inside to dig into (rather dig out a portion of the gargantuan) the TMCC burger which is surely a signature dish of this place, there are many more to choose from – pork, lamb and chicken variations of ‘the’ Burger. Succulent and lush, this one is a must eat. To cap the story came the Toblerone shot which was decadent and luscious chocolate – straight up my alley
So, yes Maquina is a place to visit con amigos and indulge in the Mexican way of life.
