Italian can go quite erroneous especially when we’re eating the pasta in India where everything has to be overtly spicy and have a semblance of succulent heavy. With this dubiety, I entered this newly functional lounge-cum-bar Trattoria Lounge at the second floor of a rare lane in Hauz Khas Village. It’s not easy to locate this place as it sits at a secluded interior of the swarming and vibrant HKV. But you would be able to locate it, skimming through the street, looking at various exciting ventures. This market place screams for competition and in order to outdo ones contemporaries one needs to be brilliantly placed, recherché to its guests with an excellent kitchen. This lounge at least promises the third quality, undoubtedly. It’s a franchise of the Trattoria Lounge that is present in the South-East Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia, China and Indonesia.
As soon as you enter the lounge, you’d feel the dearth of Intensity and size. Not a very powerful interior and very limited in its scope with just one large common lounge and a few more smaller tables, it lacks aesthetics of an explosive lounge. Though the terrace that accommodates a few more tables overlooking the greens is pretty luxurious. The black and red tones limit the space even further adding to humdrum.
But this was speaking of the interiors.
Let’s come to the owners and food. I was more than happy to meet the owners – Prerna Patodia, Divya Patodia and Arjun Sood, who were warm, hospitable and amicable. The owners are excited about their maiden venture and feel if one can do justice to the food and serve it authentically, things automatically roll.
Well, the first salad was the Smoked chicken Caesar salad called the Insalata Caesar – fresh, crunchy, the chicken perfectly smoked and just the right amount of mayonnaise, The bread cubes, baby tomatoes, basil – light and just rightly flavored.
The next was the Hawaina Pizza – wow! Scrumptious thin crust pizza took my breath away. They are known for their pizzas and rightly so – the sweet pineapple balanced the chicken and the tangy tomato base…simply awesome! The Veg Pizzas are also exotic. Must try!
Next what I ate was Pappardelle Verdi Al Funghi – the spinach flat pasta in white sauce – the pasta is made under the expertise of the in-house Chef…the white sauce was creamy but not strangulating. Italian is never heavy on cheese…cheese is an addition not an inherent part….this was perfect pasta! Even the Penne Arabiatta is good. The texture of the tomato sauce with infused basil is flavorsome.
Risotto Zafferano is quite unique and delectable! The risotto with saffron is dainty and delicious. Impeccably cooked rice with just the ideal amount of cream, this risotto is a true winner, here at Trattoria.
The Last was the desert – Tiramisu! Beautifully presented and gorgeous to taste. One can indulge in more than one serving, I am sure.
P:s They make their own breads and it tastes really good! The garlic bread is admirably delicious. Also the pastas are all in-house. They pride themselves in making a variety of pastas in different flavors. Their Burgers and Paninis are also great and sumptuous. Must Try!
